Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism. These important functions are controlled by the brain. spinal cord, and all the nerves of the body. When your nervous system is working properly all of the tissues and organs of your body are designed to resist disease and ill-health. Protecting the nervous system are the 24 moveable, weight bearing bones of the spine. A loss of normal position or motion of these bones can irritate the nerves, tissues, and muscles surrounding these bones resulting in impaired nervous system function. This can result in pain or other abnormal bodily functions. We detect these bones and joints that are not functioning properly, adjust the specific areas, and recommend stretches, exercises or other conservative methods so that you and your nervous system can operate at its best.
The most common therapeutic procedure performed by doctors of chiropractic is known as “spinal manipulation,” also called “chiropractic adjustment.” The purpose of manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become hypomobile – or restricted in their movement – as a result of a tissue injury. Tissue injury can be caused by a single traumatic event, such as improper lifting of a heavy object, or through repetitive stresses, such as sitting in an awkward position with poor spinal posture for an extended period of time. In either case, injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function for the sufferer. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.

Spinal Decompression Therapy is a non-surgical, non-invasive, drug free treatment for the relief of neck and low back pain. This therapy gentle elongates the spine creating more space between the discs and vertebrae. As the spine is stretched, it takes pressure of nerves and creates a vacuum effect to help pull bulging or herniated disc material back into the disc. This therapy works to push nutrients, water and oxygen into the disc for hydration and healing.
This sought after treatment treats the cause of the pain. This can be a great option if you are a spinal surgery candidate!

What conditions do chiropractors treat? Chiropractors treat many musculoskeletal conditions that affect the spine and extremities including:
Why is there a popping sound when a joint is adjusted? Adjustment (or manipulation) of a joint may result in the release of a gas bubble between the joints, which makes a popping sound. The same thing occurs when you “crack” your knuckles. The noise is caused by the change of pressure within the joint, which results in gas bubbles being released. There is usually minimal, if any, discomfort involved.
Is chiropractic treatment safe? In general, chiropractic treatments carry an extremely low risk of complication. Some patients will experience short-term (24 hours) local soreness following the initial adjustment. The risk of a serious complication is extremely rare. It is important that you discuss any specific concerns with your treating doctor prior to receiving treatment. Statistics show that chiropractic care is one of the safest types of health care in the world.
Is it okay to see a chiropractor if I’m pregnant? Yes. Pregnant mothers find that chiropractic adjustments improve their pregnancy and make delivery easier for themselves and their baby. Adjusting methods are always adapted to a patient’s size, weight, age, and condition of health.
I have never been to a Chiropractor. Can you explain how you deal with someone that has anxiety about Chiropractic? Dr. Figueroa specializes in treating first-time chiropractic patients. She encourages questions throughout the history and examination process. Before beginning treatment, she will explain all of the specifics of the treatment. She will not proceed with treatment until you are comfortable and all of your questions are answered. Feel free to email any questions you might have before your first visit.
Is chiropractic treatment appropriate for children? Yes, children can benefit from chiropractic care. Children are very physically active and experience many types of falls from activities of daily living as well as from participating in sports. Injuries such as these may cause many symptoms including back and neck pain, stiffness, soreness or discomfort. Chiropractic care is always adapted to the individual patient. It is a highly skilled treatment, and in the case of children, very gentle.
